National Award conferred to the vice president Dr. AnilK. Aneja We are filled with a sense of joy and pride in sharing with you that yesterday, on the occasion of the World Disability Day, our Vice President, Dr. Anil K. Aneja was conferred the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Role Model Category. A well-known name in the disability sector both at the national and international levels, Dr. Aneja has had distinguished careers in the higher education as well as in the disability sectors for over two decades. Presently, he is working as an Associate Prof. in the Department of English, Delhi University, which is one of the most prestigious English departments of the country.

Anil's work in the disability sector, particularly his work for the visually impaired is spread over multiple dimensions. When the Office of the Chief Commissioner started functioning, he was one of the first to argue a major case against Punjab National Bank on behalf of AICB, a case which opened doors for several visually impaired persons to be promoted to the post of Bank Officers. Since then his advocacy work has never looked back. Joint publication of AICB and CBM "Combating Discrimination ..." written by Dr. Aneja and edited by Sh. A.K. Mittal has been well read and appreciated globally. Dr. Aneja has also made significant interventions in areas such as capacity building, skills development and research relating to diverse aspects of visually impaired persons. He was actively involved with the Asian Blind Union as Chair of various committees and also, has been associated with the World Blind Union as member of the Indian Delegation and as member of committees. Dr. Aneja has traveled to several countries on invitation from international organizations. Anil's disability-related work in the mainstream is reflected in his being appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Equal Opportunity Cell of Delhi University and as Nodal Officer for Persons with Disabilities in Delhi University.

Such long-standing and equally significant careers in both mainstream and disability sectors as well as his multifarious achievements make Anil Aneja truly worthy of the National Award as a Role Model.
