AICB to set up 10 Braille libraries in 9 States
AICB in collaboration with Amway Opportunity Foundation has decided to set up 10 Braille libraries in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana,Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These libraries shall be operated by reputed affiliates of AICB and other institutions.
The selected affiliates/institutions are
- Vocational training and Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind (Ludhiana)
- St. Michael School for the Blind (Ranchi)
- National Association for the Blind ( Raipur )
- Rajasthan Netraheen Kalyan Sangh (Jaipur)
- Sri Hanuman Prasad Poddar Andh Vidyalaya (Varanasi)
- Drishti (Chitrakoot)
- Bihar Netraheen Parishad (Patna)
- Hellen Keller Academy (Indore)
- Bhartiya Netraheen Kalyan Parishad (Delhi)
- National Association for the Blind (Faridabad)
They shall be responsible for making available books to all blind readers in their cities. The Confederation shall make available funds with the help of Amway Opportunity Foundation to these organizations to the tune of over Rs. Two lakh each library.
The libraries shall start functioning from October 2016. It is hoped that this step will go a long way to promote Braille reading habits in blind children and adults in the country.
