  6th Onkyo World Braille Essay Contest in the ABU Region.

We are pleased to inform you that Asian Blind Union has successfully conducted the Fifth Onkyo Braille Essay Competition-2010 on behalf of the Braille Mainichi Newspaper Co. Ltd., Japan, and 8 countries participated in this event. The winner countries were India, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Yemen.

We have once again been approached by The Braille Mainichi Newspaper Co. Ltd. to conduct the 6th Onkyo World Braille Essay Competition on their behalf in the Asian region.

The detailed rules and procedure for the Contest are given below:

1. The participants can write on any one of the following topics in Hindi or English language:
 
  1. How Braille has changed my life (Braille Ne Mere Jeewan Ko Kaise Badla)?
  2. We need opportunity not pity (Hamen Avsar Chahiyen, daya Nahin).
  3. The role of visually impaired persons in the future society (Drishtibadhiton kee Bhavi Samaj Mein Bhomika).
  4. Special concessions for the blind vs. equality and inclusion (Drishtibadhiton ke Lie Vishesh Riyayten Banam Samanta Aur Sahbhagita).
2. The Essay should be written by the blind participant in English or Hindi in Braille on Braille slate or Braille typewriter and not on computer.
3.

Minimum length of the Essay should be 800 words and maximum length of Essay should not exceed 1000 words.  The Essay should also include   applicant's name, age, title and other details to be covered within the maximum number of words allowed.

4. There will be two groups of competitors—one Junior group up to the age of 25 and the second Senior group from the age of 26 onwards.
5. In determining the best seven entries, consideration shall be given firstly, to the story line closest to the topics given above, secondly, the impact and credibility of the experiences, thirdly, the accuracy and neatness in using Braille and fourthly, style and language skills.
6. The entries should be sent to All India Confederation of the Blind, Braille Bhawan, Behind Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital, Sector-5, Rohini, Delhi-110085 latest by 30th April, 2011. Entries after this date shall not be accepted.
7. The Result of the Contest would be announced by Braille Mainichi Newspaper Co. Ltd., Japan by early November, 2011.

The following prizes would be awarded:

  1. Ootsuki Award (For over all best entry from junior or senior group participants) $1,000.00 and a memorial souvenir.
  2. Excellent Work Award ( for senior group) : $500.00 and a memorial souvenir .
  3. Two Fine Work Awards ( for senior groups) : $200.00 each and a memorial souvenir.
  4. Excellent Work Award ( Junior group) : $500.00. and a memorial souvenir.
  5. Two Fine work Awards ( Junior group) : $200.00. each and a memorial souvenir
9. Cash prizes shall be sent by the Asian Blind Union Secretariat to the winners through their organizations while mementoes shall be sent by the organizers in Japan.
  Please go through the above rules very carefully, give the Contest widest possible circulation in your area and follow the deadline highlighted above.
