The Confederation has also been able to break fresh ground in enabling our blind users to have easy access to basic assistive devices, like writing frames, abacuses, taylor boards, geometry kits, mobility canes etc. at subsidized rates. We procure these devices in large quantities from the manufacturers and supply these to the “Equipment banks” which in turn provide these basic devices at subsidized cost. The subsidy cost is met by our organization. Advantage is that users get the devices nearer their homes at reduced costs. During last 8 years, over 60000 blind persons have been benefited through this Scheme.
Another important step forward has been our latest initiative to enable visually impaired persons to have easy access to high-tech equipment at greatly reduced prices. Under this Scheme, we provide low vision devices, victor reader stream to individuals and our affiliates. Similarly, we make available reconditioned mpower Braille notes at about one tenth of the market price.
