AICB ANNE and ARNE Braille Literacy Award :

AICB is pleased to announce the Anne and Arne J. Husveg Braille Literacy Promotion Award for one of the best Braille Production Centers in India. The Award has been made possible through a generous donation from Late Mr. Arne J. Husveg just before his passing away, augmented by a valuable contribution from Ms. Anne Husveg. Late Mr. Husveg, former International Director of NABP, Norway and First Vice- President of World Blind Union, as the viewers might know, worked relentlessly throughout his life for providing access to reading material in Braille for children and adults in the developing countries.

The Award carries a cash prize of up to Rs.50, 000.00(Rs. fifty thousand). This year, a Cash Award of Rs.25000 (Rs. twenty-five thousand) and a Citation was given away to CFBI Braille Press, Chennai for their creditable work. A Memento and Citation were also given away to the Basic Education Department, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Uttar Pradesh for making available all textbooks from class--1 to Class--5 free of charge in Braille.

The criteria for selection for the year 2008 shall be as follows :

(a) Quantity of output of reading material in Braille.

(b) Quality of work.

(c) Number of readers served.

The above criteria would relate to the performance of the Unit for the preceding three years. However, material like calendars, examination/test papers would not be counted towards the output of the Unit. The Award would be presented by a suitable dignitary in Delhi at the Confederation’s Louis Braille Birth Anniversary Function on January 4th, 2007.

Braille Production Units having heavy duty embossing machines capable of producing Braille at the rate of 200 characters a second or more, from any part of the country are eligible to enter for the Award.

Interested Braille Production Centers are requested to kindly fill up with great care and precision, the enclosed form and return the same to AICB Head Quarters latest by 31st July, 2008.

A knowledgeable panel of experts would examine all entries for the Award and may, if required, visit the concerned Centre/Unit for obtaining necessary additional clarification/information. They may also call for Braille titles at random for making a quality-check. The decision of the panel would be final and binding.

AICB ANNE & ARNE For Data Entry Operators :

All India Confederation of the the Blind announces Cash Awards of Rs.10,000.00 and Rs.5000.00 respectively for the most efficient and accurate Data Entry Operators working with Braille Production Units in India. The criteria for this competition will be both speed and accuracy. Braille Press Managers should maintain the daily record of the work of each of their operators from January to October 2008 and select the best worker to send his/her name to AICB Head Office to participate in the proposed Competition before 5th November. The actual Competition shall take place by the end of November and Cash Awards shall be given away on 4th January every year on the occasion of Louis Braille Birth Anniversary.

AICB Dr. H.E. Schulze & Mrs. Marga Schulze Foundation, Germany Merits Scholarship For Visually Challenged Girls :

All India Confederation of the Blind is pleased to announce AICB Dr. H.E. Schulze & Marga Schulze Foundation Merit Scholarship for Visually Challenged girls studying at the post graduate level in the country. Under this Scheme, scholarship worth Rs.1000/- per month is provided to those blind girls studying at post graduate level and have secured above 55% marks in the previous examination. Preference is given to post graduate level courses like journalism, social work, management, education and law etc.  Under this scheme some Perkins Braillers are also provided to those girls who are in need of taking down long notes for their personal use in completing their education.   Request in the prescribed Application Form may be routed through the principal or the Head of the faculty of College/University where the student is studying latest by 15thst September 2008. All applications must bear seal of office of the forwarding authority. The Application duly supported by attested copies of Certificate of date of Birth, attested copy of the Certificate/Degree and mark sheets of the previous examination, attested copy of the certificate of blindness issued by a Government Hospital, attested copy of passport size photograph and Progress report duly certified by the College/University authorities.

Krishna Kumari Varma Memorial Award :

This Annual Award of Rs.10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only) will be given by the All India Confederation of the Blind to those blind students who secure the first or second position in their post-graduate examinations in any subject (except Music and Fine Arts) in order of merit in any university of India recognized by the U.G.C. The blind students will be required to compete with all students appearing in their subject in any particular year. While selecting a student for this Award, his/her whole academic career would be taken into consideration. Photocopies of the certificates of all examinations, attested by the Head of the Departments concerned, should be sent along with the application in the prescribed Performa (copy enclosed at Annexure-A) which can be obtained from the office of AICB. The applications for this Award must reach the AICB Office on or before October 31, 2008. Rules for the Award are also attached (at Annexure-B).
